Description
The Lodges and Gate Piers, Walls and Railings are an early 19th century pair of lodges located on Lechlade Road in Great Faringdon, serving as the entrance to Faringdon House. These small, square, one-storey buildings are constructed of brick and topped with pyramid slate roofs. They feature rear wall chimneys adorned with stone cornices and a moulded stone eaves band. The openings have cambered heads with glazing bar sash windows on three sides, which were originally doors leading to the drive. There are low modern extensions at the rear. In front of the lodges, there are six plain chamfered rusticated piers with a low stone wall connecting the outer piers, creating a wide central space and narrower pedestrian entries on either side. Iron railings and gates complete the entrance.
