Description

The Church of St Mary is a Grade II* listed building, likely dating from the 12th century, with restorations carried out in 1885, which included flint facing. An early 20th-century porch and vestry were also added. The church features coursed squared knapped flint on the nave with stone quoins, while the chancel is constructed with unknapped flint. The nave has an old plain-tile roof, and the chancel has a 19th-century plain-tile roof. A 19th-century wooden bell-cote with a wood-shingle pyramidal roof is located to the left.

The church has a four and a half-bay nave with a chancel. A plank door is situated at the center of the nave, featuring a Romanesque round-arched doorway with zig-zag moulding. To the left, there is a lancet window, and to the right, a 19th-century three-light stone mullion window with ogee-shaped heads. The chancel has a trefoil-topped paired lancet to the left and a Romanesque lancet to the right. A 19th-century three-lancet window is located at the east end of the chancel. The rear of the church includes lancets for both the chancel and nave, along with a lean-to vestry on the right.

Inside, the church has a 19th-century braced collar-truss roof over the chancel, along with a 19th-century altar rail, choir stalls, and encaustic tiles on the floor. The chancel arch is Romanesque and features dog-tooth moulding on the imposts. The nave has a 15th-century queen-strut roof with two rows of wind braces, and there is a Romanesque round stone font on a 19th-century base. A round-arched doorway leads to the vestry.
