Description
The Dower House is a house built around 1820, constructed of squared and coursed limestone with limestone ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in the Regency style. The building is two storeys tall and features a three-window range. The entrance includes a semi-circular arch with a chamfered architrave leading to a six-panelled door, two of which are glazed, and a fanlight above. A Tuscan porch is present, topped with balcony railings. There is a semi-circular stone arch above the door, and flat stone arches are found over the first-floor sashes and on the ground floor. French windows open onto small railed balconies that are similar to the one above the porch. The eaves are broad and overhanging, and the roof is gabled in an M shape with gable end stacks. The rear elevation features flat stone arches over sashes that flank semi-circular stone arches over two central sashes. To the right, there is a one-bay extension built in a similar style and materials, which includes a late 19th-century gabled extension at the rear and right. Inside, there are six-panelled doors set in panelled reveals, and a straight flight staircase with winders and a wreathed handrail. The interior has only been partially inspected.
