Description
Yate Cottage and Giffard are two cottages dating from the late 17th century, with the cottage on the right built in the early 18th century. They are constructed of coursed limestone rubble and feature a thatched roof. There are brick stacks on the left and stone stacks finished in 20th-century brick on the right. The buildings are one storey with an attic and have a four-window range. Timber lintels are present over a 20th-century door and early 20th-century casements, with early 20th-century casements in the half dormers. The gabled roof has gable end stacks, which are external on the right. Each gable end has 20th-century gabled extensions, with the one on the right incorporating the current entry to Giffard. Inside, Giffard features an elm beam and a two-bay collar-truss roof with butt purlins and a small arch brace from the principal to the tie beam. The interior of Yate Cottage has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
