Description
The Orchards is a house located on Horsepond Road in Gallowstree Common. It dates back to the 17th century, with a 20th-century cross-wing addition. The building features a combination of brick and timber framing, with rendered infill in the center and a thatched roof. It is designed in an L-shape and consists of a single storey with an attic, presenting a four-window range. There is a plank door on the right side at the junction of the cross-wing and the main house. The windows are arranged irregularly, with four casements to the left and a four-light casement in the cross-wing. The roof has three swept dormers, including two on the left-hand return of the cross-wing, and a three-light casement window is located at the gable end of the cross-wing. The building has end stacks and a hipped-roofed single-storey wing to the left, which includes a single casement window. Inside, the structure retains timber framing with chamfered spine beams featuring ogee stops.
