Description

Rocky Lane Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the late 16th century, with extensions and alterations made in the early 20th century. It is constructed of flint with brick dressings and features a tile roof and brick chimneys. The building is two stories high, with a cellar and attic, and has a three-window range. The central door is stone framed and studded, topped by a half circular arch with trefoil carving in the spandrels beneath a hood-mould. To the right and left of the door are three-light stone mullioned and transomed windows. On the first floor, there is a central two-light stone mullioned window, flanked by three-light stone mullioned windows. The roof includes three 20th-century two-light hipped half-dormers, and there is a square stone sundial plaque located under the central dormer. The gable ends have stacks with three flues, featuring a central square flue and an outer pair set at 45 degrees. There are 20th-century wings added to both the left and right sides of the farmhouse. The interior has been significantly altered, but fireplaces remain on the ground and first floors, and there is a staircase from the first to the second floor that dates from the 17th century.
