Description

The Court House is a substantial house dating from the 16th century, with an extension added in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and features an old plain-tile roof with brick and stone stacks. The building has a gable-fronted plan consisting of two parallel ranges and stands two storeys high.

The front facade has double gables and features a two-window arrangement. To the right of the center is an arched doorway, while to the left are tripartite sash windows on both the ground and first floors. On the right side, there are margin-light sashes. The right gable is adorned with two small stone stacks set diagonally. Between the main gables, there is a small stone-coped false gable, and the left gable displays a datestone inscribed "W.FRUIN/1841".

The rear part of the left range is a 16th-century house with a heavy chamfered plinth. On the first floor, it has sashes flanking a stone-arched window with recessed spandrels. The ground floor features a six-panel door set beneath a stone label and another sash window. The furthest bay shows signs of first-floor timber framing having been replaced on both sides, and the rear gable wall has a large projecting chimney with sloping weatherings.

The right range has a three-window garden front with additional margin-light sashes, and those on the first floor are topped with gables. Inside, there are some intersecting chamfered beams. The right range is slightly later than the extension of the left range, and the datestone may refer to this section of the building.
