Description

This is a farmhouse, now a house, dating back to the 16th century, with extensions added in the early 18th century. The construction is a mix of partly-rendered timber framing with brick infill, limestone rubble, and a plain-tile roof with stone and brick stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shape. The front of the house, which faces away from the road, has the rebuilt gable end of the original main range projecting to the right of the entrance. Much of the front is hidden behind a tiled, glazed porch. The roof is hipped on the left side and features a large ridge stack built on a stone base, aligned with the entrance. Exposed square timber framing is visible on the left end wall and the two-window return wall of the main range. A lower rubble range extends to the rear, and the rear gable wall bears the inscription "RY/1729" above a large stone chimney projection. Inside, the central stack incorporates a large open fireplace and two Tudor-arched stone fireplaces with moulded surrounds and recessed spandrels. A winder staircase flanks the stack, and some early 17th-century oak panelling is present. An attached cast-iron pump, dating from the 19th century, has a bottle-shaped attachment with a tap.
