Description

The Small House is a mid-17th century house located on the south side of The Street in Brightwell Cum Sotwell. It is constructed of large timber framing with angle braces, painted brick and rendered infill, and has a thatched roof, hipped to the left. A brick ridge stack is located to the right of the centre, and an end stack is to the left. The house is two storeys high with a two-window front, and includes a cross-wing set at right angles to the street. A 20th-century panelled door is situated on the left return of the cross-wing, with a lean-to hood supported by brackets. The fenestration is irregular, featuring casement windows. A queen post roof truss is present in the gable end of the cross-wing. The interior was not inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
