Description

The Gables is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. It is located on the south side of The Street in Brightwell Cum Sotwell. The house has a rendered plinth and walls, likely on brick, with an old plain-tile roof and a brick ridge stack to the right of the centre and an end stack to the left. The building is two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. It features a five-panel, part-glazed door with an open gabled porch in the centre. The ground and first floors contain 16-pane unhorned sash windows with wooden architrave surrounds. Three gabled dormers light the attic space. The interior was not inspected. A single-storey, two-window wing is attached to the right, constructed with timber framing and painted brick infill, and topped with a Welsh slate roof, including a brick ridge stack centrally placed.
