Description
The Priory is a house located in Brightwell Cum Sotwell, dating from the early 17th century with a late 18th-century front facing the road. It is constructed of red brick featuring flared headers in Flemish bond, topped with an old plain-tile roof. The building has a brick ridge stack positioned to the left of center and an end stack with two diagonally set flues on the right.
The house is two stories high and has a two-window range. On the ground floor, there are three 16-pane unhorned sash windows with segmental brick heads, while the first floor has two similar 16-pane unhorned sashes also with segmental brick heads. The roof is adorned with two cross-gables.
On the left side of the building, there is substantial timber framing with angle braces and brick infill, creating a two-story, four-bay range. To the right, there is a porch with a four-panel part-glazed door. The right side of the house features 16-pane unhorned sashes on both the ground and first floors. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is likely to be of interest. There is a 20th-century addition to the right of the original structure.
