Description
The Loans is a house located on Warborough Wharf Road in Shillingford, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed clunch rubble with brick dressings and is partly rendered. The roof is made of old plain tiles and features brick gable stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall with attics.
The front of the house is symmetrical and rendered, with five windows. The central entrance features a six-panel door set within a 20th-century porch. The windows are 12-pane sashes, and there are two small dormers in the roof. The sides and rear of the house have a stepped brick plinth and a dentil eaves course. The left end wall shows signs of a former rear outshut, which has been raised and now has a two-span roof. There is also a late-19th century rear wing. Inside, the house features an 18th-century staircase with turned balusters and a closed string.
