Description
The Riverside House and attached walls is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century. It features flared brick with red-brick dressings and clunch rubble with brick dressings, topped by an old plain-tile roof with brick gable stacks. The building has a central-stair plan with a rear wing and stands two storeys high plus attics. The symmetrical front has five windows arranged in header bond, a storey band, a dentil eaves course, and gauged-brick arches with projecting keyblocks, which are segmental on the ground floor and flat on the first floor. The windows are mid-19th century sashes with margin lights, and the ground-floor sills have been lowered. A central six-panel door features a deep wedge lintel pierced with a fanlight and is set in a Chinese-trellis open porch. There are also two three-light roof dormers. The gable walls, rear, and rear wing are constructed of stone and have stepped brick plinths. The interior has not been inspected. A high brick wall in Flemish bond runs from the left side of the house to the road, stepping down, and returns to the entrance gates.
