Description

Thorney Downe Cottage and Thorney Downe House is a house and attached cottage located on Didcot Manor Road. The main house dates from the mid-17th century, while the cottage was added in the 19th century. The building features a red brick plinth and roughcast walls, likely built on brick, topped with an old plain-tile roof and a central brick ridge stack. It has a two-unit lobby-entry plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a three-window range.

The entrance includes a six-panel door leading to the 19th-century extension on the left, which has a recessed open porch. The ground floor is fitted with 20th-century three-light casements, while the first floor features a single-light casement in the center and 19th-century four-light casements on both the left and right sides. A brick dentil course runs along the eaves. The center of the building has a timber-framed cross-gable with red brick nogging and a single-light casement. The right return displays timber framing with brick infill on the first floor. The 19th-century cottage to the left is constructed of brick and also has a plain-tile roof. The interior has not been inspected.
