Description

31 High Street is a house that dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with an extension added in the late 18th century. It features a combination of brick and timber framing with brick infill, topped by an old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. Originally designed with a two-unit plan, it has been extended to four units. The building stands two storeys high, with an additional attic.

The central bays of the four-window front are timber framed on the first floor, displaying a slight jetty that was likely underbuilt in the 18th century. The ground floor includes a pair of doorways, one of which is now blocked, alongside a sash window and a 20th-century casement. On the first floor, there are two three-light leaded casements. The higher 18th-century bay on the far right features an entrance and a sash window, along with a casement on the first floor and a dormer. The bay on the far left has a 20th-century casement and a horizontal-sliding sash on the first floor. The roof has stacks located at the ends of the lower range. The interior has not been inspected, but it is believed that the building was converted into three or four cottages in the 18th century.
