Description
39 High Street is a house that dates back to the late medieval period and was remodelled and extended in the early 18th century. It features rendered timber framing and has an old plain-tile roof with a brick ridge stack. The building has a 2-unit lobby-entry plan with a rear wing and stands two storeys high. The front has two windows, a plank door with a 20th-century canopy supported by shaped brackets, a 12-pane sash window to the left, and a tripartite sash window to the right. On the first floor, there are leaded casements with two and three lights. The hipped-roofed rear wing also has additional leaded casements. Inside, there are back-to-back open fireplaces and windbraces from the lower medieval roof. Originally, this building was part of a row of three medieval tenements.
