Description
Church House is a house built in 1878 by Sir G. Gilbert Scott. It features colourwashed brick with tile hanging and timber framing, topped with an old plain-tile roof and brick stacks. The building has an L-plan and is two storeys high. The front, which faces High Street, has two windows and showcases timber framing above a decorative band of tile hanging. The windows project slightly and are intricately divided with mullions and transoms. The ornamental timber framing extends around the upper part of the larger ground floor window on the left. The left end wall is similarly decorated and includes a gable over the ground-floor window. The entrance is located within a hexagonal tower at the rear of this side, which features a tiled steeple roof. The roof has a gablet on the left and two highly ornamental stacks. A simpler wing projects to the rear. The interior has not been inspected. Church House was built as part of The Missionary College and is included for its group value.
