Description
The Orchards is a house, originally two cottages, likely dating from the mid-17th century. The right side of the structure was partially refaced in the 18th century, with a datestone indicating 1712 positioned on the first floor. Further alterations occurred in the mid-20th century to the left and right, and again later in the 20th century. The construction incorporates napped flint with brick dressings on the ground floor to the right of centre; red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with flared headers, to the first floor right of centre; and red brick with sections of timber framing to the left and right. The roof is covered in plain tiles, with a brick ridge stack positioned to the right of centre. The building presents a 3-window range to the right, and a single-storey-and-attic, 2-window range to the left. A part-glazed door is located to the left of centre. The window openings are irregular and contain casements. A gabled half-dormer is located to the left of centre. Timber framing is visible on the left and right returns, and at the rear, with brick and rendered infill. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included on the list for its group value.
