Description
Majoram Cottage, located at The Chestnuts, is a building dating from the mid 17th century, with early 20th century additions on both ends. The left side features roughcast, likely over timber framing, while the right side has render, also probably over timber framing, with a section of timber framing visible to the right of center. The roof is covered with old plain tiles, along with areas of late 20th century plain tiles. A brick ridge stack is positioned at the center, with two diagonally set flues and end stacks.
The cottage is two stories tall and has a five-window range. To the right of center, there is a four-panel part-glazed door with an open lean-to porch. To the left of center, there is another four-panel part-glazed door, which is set within a gabled porch that has a double part-glazed door. The windows are mostly 19th century casements and are arranged irregularly.
Inside, there is a mid 17th century winder staircase located at the rear center, and the timber framing of the rear wall is visible on the interior right. A mid 17th century door is found at the base of the staircase, and there is an open fireplace on the ground floor to the right, featuring a spine beam supported by a shaped bracket.
