Description

Grange Farmhouse is a derelict farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with extensions added in the 18th century. It features a combination of timber-framed and brick construction, topped with a plain tile roof that has gabled ends. The building includes a brick gable-end stack and a large lateral stack with three brick shafts.

The plan consists of a 17th-century two-and-a-half bay timber-framed range with a lateral stack on the northeast side. In the 18th century, a brick range was added to the south, which includes one room and a stair hall, creating a new front. There is also another 18th-century brick wing at the rear to the north.

The exterior stands two storeys high with an attic and has a two-window southeast front. This front features 3-light casements with glazing bars, a central doorway, and a gabled dormer with small casements. The right-hand side of the front is overgrown with ivy. At the rear, there is a gable-ended timber-framed wing on the left with red brick nogging, and further to the left is a brick wing that runs parallel to the front range.

Inside, the 17th-century timber frame consists of two and a half bays with jowled posts, tension braces, and a clasped-purlin roof with wind braces. The 18th-century wings have butt-purlin roofs; the south wing contains 18th-century two-panel cupboard doors, but much of the interior features Victorian joinery, including the staircase and cast-iron chimneypieces.
