Description

Upper Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the early 17th century, with an early 19th-century lean-to addition on the right and a 20th-century addition also on the right. The building features a rendered stone plinth, timber framing with rendered infill in the center, and render on the left, which is probably on brick, while the right side is rendered on brick. The main roof is thatched, and the lean-to addition has a plain-tile roof. There are two prominent brick ridge stacks, one at the center and another to the left of center.

The farmhouse has a three-unit lobby-entry plan and stands two stories tall with an attic, displaying a four-window range. A four-panel door is located on the left return of the lean-to. The windows are irregularly arranged and consist of 19th-century wooden casements with arch-topped lights, along with swept dormers. The rear of the building features a stone rubble plinth and large timber framing with some angle braces and brick infill, including sections with a herringbone pattern. There is a bread oven made of limestone rubble in the center of the ground floor, surrounded by areas of render.

Inside, the farmhouse has a winder staircase leading from the ground to the first floor and a straight flight staircase from the first floor to the attic. The roof structure consists of double Queen-post construction, and there are open fireplaces on both the ground and first floors. The interior also features chamfered spine beams with decorative end stops, some 17th-century doors on the ground and first floors, and smock hooks attached to the spine beam on the right side of the ground floor.
