Description

Hope Cottage is a house likely dating from the mid-17th century, with a refronting in the 18th century. It is constructed of painted uncoursed stone rubble to the ground floor, with brick dressings; the first floor is painted brick. The roof is thatched and half-hipped, with a brick ridge stack in the centre. The house is two storeys high and has a three-window front. A sash door is located on the left-hand side, sheltered by an open timber-framed porch with a gabled roof. There are 20th-century three-light casement windows in segmental-headed openings to the left and right of the centre, and a single pane window between the ground and first floors, centrally located. 19th-century two-light casement windows are found on the first floor to the left and right of centre. Inside, there is a winder staircase in the centre leading from the ground to the first floor, and a queen-post roof. A fireplace remains open on the ground floor to the right, while a fireplace on the ground floor to the left has been blocked.
