Description
The Malt House is a house dating from the 17th century, with an extension from the 18th century. It is constructed of clunch rubble, featuring timber lintels, some brick quoins, and timber framing. The roofs are thatched and covered with old plain tiles, complemented by brick stacks. The building has a three-unit plan and is two storeys high with attics.
The front of the house has four windows. On the far left, there is a later projecting wing with brick quoins. The central bays contain an entrance flanked by 20th-century windows, but they still show an eroded rubble string that connects to label drops. To the far right, there is a tiled bay, which is also a later extension, featuring a half-hipped roof. The roof over the central bays has two roof dormers and a highly ornamented brick stack on the right side. The left end wall of the main range has a partly weatherboarded timber-framed gable with rubble infill. The rear wall also has a similar string and labels. Inside, there are some chamfered and stopped beams.
