Description
Library Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th century, possibly earlier, with some early 18th-century features. It is constructed from limestone rubble, which is both uncoursed and squared, and has timber lintels. The roof is made of old plain tiles and features a brick ridge stack. The building has a three-unit lobby-entry plan and is one storey plus attics high.
The front has three windows, with a plank door in the center flanked by three-light casements. To the far right, there is a 17th-century oval stone opening set in a rectangular moulded surround, complete with an iron stanchion and hooks for shutter hinges. Above, there are three gabled two-light dormers. The earlier part of the building, which is to the right of the door and stack, has a lower roof made of uncoursed rubble. The left gable wall features a plinth with moulded brick weathering that returns to the rear wall, as well as a gable parapet. A rear wing was rebuilt around 1930.
Inside, the earlier section of the farmhouse has a central exposed cruck-frame, making it one of only two cruck structures known in the village.
