Description

Numbers 79, 80 (Colin Matthews) and 81 (Southern Electricity) are a terrace of four houses, now with shops on the ground floor. They date from the early 18th century and have undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. The left side features 20th-century red brick, while the central and right sections have 20th-century shop fronts. The building is constructed of grey brick with red brick dressings and has an old plain-tile roof that is half-hipped on the left. There is a brick end stack on the left and ridge stacks located to the left of centre, in the centre, and to the right of centre.

The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has an eight-window range. The shop fronts include central glazed doors on the right and in the centre. To the left of centre, there is a 20th-century glazed door leading to a recessed porch, which features a segmental brick archway with a keystone. On the left, there is a four-pane horned sash window with a segmental brick head and keystone above. A damaged flat brick band runs between the ground and first floors. The first floor has four-pane segmental headed horned sashes with segmental brick heads and keystones, except for two 20th-century windows that occupy original openings on the left. The eaves are adorned with a plain rendered cornice, while the right side has a panelled brick parapet and the left side has a part-rendered plain brick parapet. There is a hipped dormer on the left and flat-roofed dormers to the left and right of centre, as well as to the right. The interiors have not been inspected.
