Description
A timber-framed house, dating to the 16th and 17th centuries, and subsequently altered. It is now divided into two separate houses. The eastern part of the building has a jettied gable end, with the original timber framework (close-studding) still visible. The rest of the facade is now painted brick. The roof is covered in old tiles. The front of the building, facing Friday Street, is two storeys and has an attic. The ground floor has two doorways, an early 19th-century casement window, and a reproduction bow window. Above, there are two early 19th-century casement windows, although the original window openings remain visible behind them. A further early 19th-century casement is visible in the gable end. The rear elevation, facing Queen Street, includes a corner gable with a small early 19th-century casement window in the half-hipped end of the older part of the roof. This section of the building has two storeys and three windows, with 19th-century casements on the upper floor, a reproduction bow window, and modern glazing on the ground floor. A six-panelled door is present, topped with a cornice. The building is part of a group which includes Nos 5 to 35 (odd), and 45 to 65 (odd) Old Timbers and Friday Cottage, No 73, along with Nos 4 and 6, No 10, Nos 14, 14A and 16, Nos 54 and 56, The Anchor Hotel, Baltic Cottage and Baltic House Thameside, opposite.
