Description
The Old Forge is a late 16th century to early 17th century industrial building located on the north side of Friday Street. It is timber framed with red brick infilling, featuring a ground floor made of red brick with flint panels and an old tiled roof. Originally used as a forge and reportedly also as a tannery, it has since been converted into a house. The building stands two storeys high and has eight windows in total, which are leaded casements of one, two, and three lights, mostly of reproduction design. There is a reproduction Tudor arched door and a similar garage door set beneath a re-used old timber lintel. The Old Forge is listed as Grade II for its group value, as it is part of a collection of buildings that includes Nos 5 to 35 (odd), and 45 to 65 (odd) Old Timbers, Friday Cottage, No 73, and others in the vicinity.
