Description

These are two buildings, number 54 and 56, on the south side of Friday Street. Dating from the 19th century, the buildings have a rendered facade topped with an old tiled roof and an eaves cornice. They are two storeys high, though the eastern bay slightly projects forward and contains a dormer window. There are three windows in total; the windows in the eastern bay have architraves with decorative friezes and labels above them. The windows are sash windows. An off-centre six-panelled door is topped with a bracketed hood and a plain fanlight. A reproduction bowed shop window is located at the western end. The buildings are included on the list for their group value, contributing to the character of the street together with other listed buildings including numbers 5 to 35 (odd), 45 to 65 (odd), Old Timbers, Friday Cottage, number 73, numbers 4 and 6, number 10, numbers 14, 14A and 16, The Anchor Hotel, Baltic Cottage and Baltic House Thameside.
