Description

Brewers of Nuneham Limited is a blacksmith's house and forge, now functioning as a garage and workshop, dating from the mid-18th century. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick in Flemish bond and features an old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. It has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys plus an attic. The front has two windows and includes a plinth, storey bond, and a dentil eaves course. The ground floor has segmental-arched cross windows, while the upper floor has 2-light casements. The central doorway appears to be a later addition. The right return wall, which faces the road, has similar windows towards the rear. The hipped roof is complemented by two gabled roof dormers at the back. There are two large chimney projections at the rear, which are partly hidden by a long single-storey workshop extending from the back. A small annexe at the angle of the ranges features a 6-panel door and sash windows. A large 20th-century brick extension to the rear of the workshop is not of special architectural interest. The interior was not inspected. This building is located at the northern entrance to the village, balancing The Harcourt Arms, and is part of the estate village built around 1760 for the 1st Earl Harcourt.
