Description
The Orchard is a house located on High Street in Clifton Hampden. It likely dates back to the 16th century, with a brick encasement added in the late 18th century and subsequent alterations. The building features cruck-framed red brick construction, with large timber framing on the right side that has brick infill. It has a thatched roof that is half-hipped on the left. The house is a single storey with an attic and has a three-window range. There is a plank door situated to the right of the centre, topped by a rounded brick relieving arch. The ground floor has two-light wood casements with rounded brick relieving arches, except for a 20th-century large-pane window on the right. The right side displays panels of timber framing, and there are three swept dormers. Inside, the house is noted for its cruck-frames. A collection of photographs of the building can be found in the National Monuments Record.
