Description

The Watlington Memorial Club, originally listed as the Y.M.C.A, is a house that has been converted into a social club. It dates from the mid-18th century and was remodeled with additional rear ranges built in the early 19th century. The building features colourwashed rendered walls and a half-hipped old tile roof, with stacks that are not visible. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a seven-window range.

The entrance showcases an early 19th-century architrave with panelled reveals surrounding a six-panelled door topped by a decorative overlight. There are segmental arches over six-pane sash windows and three-pane sashes on the second floor, with blind windows flanking the central bay above the door. A moulded stone cornice adds to its architectural detail.

At the rear, there are two early 19th-century two-storey ranges constructed of chalk rubble with brick quoins and a hipped Welsh slate roof. Inside, the front hall features six-panelled doors, an early 19th-century cornice, and round-arched entries leading to the right and to the rear hall, which contains early 19th-century open-well stairs. The ground and first-floor rooms on the front left retain mid-18th-century panelling.
