Description
This house, now a shop and house, dates from the mid to late 16th century and was remodelled in the mid-19th century and the 20th century. It began as a timber-framed building; a tie beam and 18th-century studs are visible in the left gable, while the rear has rectangular timber framing with brick infill. The front is constructed of mid-19th century Flemish bond brick with flared brick headers. The roof is half-hipped with old clay tiles, and a rear lateral brick stack has been shortened. The building has a three-unit plan.
The front elevation is two storeys high with a four-window arrangement. A segmental arch sits above a 20th-century door, adjacent to a 20th-century window on the right. A 20th-century door and flanking shop windows are located on the left. Late 19th-century sash windows are set within timber lintels on the first floor.
A rear wing, dating to the 17th century, extends to the right and is two windows wide. This section features rectangular timber framing with brick infill, a gabled old-tile roof, and a 20th-century brick stack.
The interior includes a 17th-century cellar with chamfered and stopped spine beams. The right-hand side of the building features quartered chamfered beams and a three-bay queen-post roof with curved braces and windbraces.
