Description

The Paper Shop is a house, now a shop and dwelling, dating to the late 16th and 17th centuries, with a later 17th-century rear wing. It was refronted and remodelled in the early 20th century. Originally timber framed, the front is now brick with limestone quoins and dressings, and has a gabled Welsh slate roof. A brick rear lateral stack is present. The building is L-shaped, including the rear right wing. It has two storeys and a three-window front. The front contains a 20th-century door and flanking shop windows, with stone lintels over horned six-pane sash windows. A rear left outshut adjoins the 17th-century two-storey rear wing, which is rendered and has a gabled old and 20th-century tile roof. The first floor interior retains timber framing to the side walls and has a two-bay collar-truss roof. A quarter-turn staircase is located at the junction with the rear wing, which features chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and a common-rafter roof.
