Description
The entrance gates to Nuneham Courtenay Arboretum date from the late 18th century to early 19th century. They are made of cast iron and feature limestone-ashlar piers and walls. The gates are heavily decorated with quatrefoils, rosettes, and spear heads, arranged in three sections between octagonal piers that have moulded caps. The flanking walls extend sideways to additional piers and then curve outward in convex shapes to outer piers by the roadside. These gates were formerly the main entrance to Nuneham Park, which is recognized as a Grade 1 site in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission County Register of Gardens.
