Description
The Church of St Mary is a church dating from 1855-7, designed by G.E. Street. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, and has a plain-tile roof. The church comprises a three-bay aisled nave, a chancel with a two-bay north aisle, a west tower, and a south porch. It is built in the 13th century style. The chancel and aisles feature grouped lancet windows, separated by buttresses with cusped circular windows above the lancets at the ends of the south aisle. The south porch, added in 1887, has an outer arch in the Decorated style. The west tower, completed by Street in 1868, features a broach spire with tall two-light belfry openings in the gables and lucarnes on the angles. The west doorway has three chamfered orders below a three-light window with plate tracery. Inside, the church is largely plain with arch-braced collar-truss roofs, with the exception of the chancel which has a wagon roof and carved capitals to the aisle and east window. Stained glass from 1875 is in the east window, and the church contains fittings from the 19th century.
