Description
The Old Forge House is a house dating from the early 17th century and 18th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with squared quoins and timber lintels, topped by an old plain-tile roof and brick stacks. The building consists of two parallel ranges and stands three storeys tall. The front, which has been much altered, features a two-window layout with two entrances. The ground and first floors have tall 20th-century casements, while the second floor has a three-light casement that cuts into the stone eaves cove. Lintels are still visible for two sets of paired openings on the lower floors. The rear range includes a section of an early 17th-century house, showcasing remnants of an ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned window and a stone lateral stack with two diagonal brick shafts. Inside, there is a timber-framed wall from the early range, moulded-plank and panelled doors with L-hinges, parts of a staircase with 18th-century turned balusters, and a clasped-purlin roof in the early range.
