Description
Cromwell House is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble and features timber lintels, with part of the roof covered in old plain tiles and brick stacks. The building has an L-plan layout and stands two storeys high plus attics. The front has two windows and a six-panel door situated between two-light casements, with similar windows on the first floor. There is an added bay to the left that has no openings on the front but includes an entrance in the return wall. The earlier section of the house has flanking stacks. At the rear, there is a central plank door and irregular casements, with the upper part of the wall made of brick and second-floor windows. The wing features a half-hipped rear gable. Inside, there are two open fireplaces with chamfered bressumers, one of which has a herringbone brickwork fireback, and a chamfered beam with ogee stops. The house was formerly designed with a through-passage plan.
