Description
The Church of St Mary is a Grade II* listed building located in Crowmarsh Newnham. It dates from the 12th century, with alterations from the 13th century and restoration completed in 1849. The church is constructed of flint with stone dressings and has a plain tile roof. It features a nave and chancel layout, with a south aisle and a porch on the north side. The 19th-century porch has a flint base and is timber framed with a gabled tiled roof, while a single lancet window is located to the left. The chancel has two lancet windows, and there is a 19th-century bellcote on the right return gable. A three-light plate tracery window is found on the left return, and there are additional lancets at the rear. Inside, there is a piscina set in a trefoiled recess to the right of the chancel and a double aumbry to the left. The chancel arch is Romanesque and includes a squint to the right. The roof is likely a 14th-century crown post design without a crown plate. A late 16th-century brass is mounted on the wall of the aisle.
