Description
26 and 27 Cornmarket Street is a building that dates back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 17th and 19th centuries. It features a three-storey timber-framed front with a Welsh slate roof and an overhang, which is now hidden by modern shop fronts. The facades have undergone various changes over time. Number 26 includes a house and shop and retains its gable, although it has been extensively rebuilt internally in 1949. It has a modern three-light sash window on the first and second floors. Number 27 is a shop only, with plate glass shop fronts on both upper floors, framed in wood and topped with a pediment. A parapet above conceals a hipped roof. At the back of the building, extending to the Ship Street front, there is a pointed stone arch, likely an original doorway.
