Description
No 38 on Cornmarket Street is a shop located on the southeast corner of St Michael's Street. Originally known as the Plough Inn, this building dates back to the 17th century, with a date of 1665 once visible on the front window. It is primarily two storeys tall and features a high attic gable. On the first floor, there is a six-light casement window with a decorative cornice above, topped by two small gables. The ground floor has a modern shop front designed to fit the overall style of the building. The north side has been reconstructed in modern times, featuring new gables, each with a six-light wood mullioned window supported by brackets and adorned with a moulded cornice. The interior retains a stone fireplace on the first floor to the west. The building has been well restored, making its current appearance worthy of preservation. Nos 38 to 42 form a group.
