Description
No. 35 on Cornmarket Street is a house and shop that represents the remaining half of a fine 18th-century stone house. It is three stories tall, constructed of ashlar, and features a corbelled cornice along with a Welsh slate roof that includes two modern hipped attic dormers. The northern half of the front façade projects forward. The ground floor has a modern shop front, while the first floor showcases a recessed Venetian window with a semi-circular relieving arch above it. An angle pilaster is located to the north of this window, and a moulded impost is to the south, followed by a tall sash window. On the second floor, there are two additional sash windows. Although the house has undergone alterations, the remaining structure still holds significant value. A drawing by J. C. Buckler from 1821, located in the Bodleian Library, depicts part of this house.
