Description

This is an 18th-century cottage located on the south side of Freehold Street, Lower Heyford. It is built of coursed squared limestone rubble with wooden lintels, and has a thatched roof with a brick gable stack. The cottage has a single-unit plan with a rear outshut. It is two storeys high. The front has two windows on each floor; the first floor windows are two-light casements, with the left window lowered, and the ground floor windows are of one, two, and two lights. The middle ground floor window likely replaced the original doorway. A narrow extension to the left of the building now provides access to the entrance. A further entrance is located at the end of the small rear outshut. The interior has not been inspected. The cottage is one of a group of similar thatched cottages situated at the upper end of Freehold Street, and is included on the list for its group value.
