Description

White Horse Cottage is a 17th-century house located on the north side of Freehold Street in Lower Heyford. Constructed of rubble stone with wooden lintels, the cottage has a thatched roof and brick gable stacks. The original plan comprised three units. The two-storey, three-window front features casement windows: a two-light window above, and windows with two, three, three, two, and two lights at ground floor, with a central doorway. A small two-light casement window is visible on the left-hand gable wall, which faces the road, and further casements are located at the rear. A former outbuilding to the right is now incorporated into the main body of the house. Inside, the cottage retains chamfered joists and beams, a large open fireplace with a bread oven and a substantial recess.
