Description

This is a wall and gatepier located approximately 15 metres north of The Orchard, likely dating from the late 17th century. The structure is made of coursed squared marlstone and limestone ashlar. The wall stands about 2 metres high and features a three-course triangular coping, extending roughly 40 metres southwest from the western gatepier to a subsidiary gateway. The square ashlar pier has a chamfered plinth, a moulded cornice, and a large ball finial. This wall and gatepier are associated with the large 16th and 17th century mansion of the Cobb family, which was demolished in 1815.
