Description
The Coach and Horses Public House is a public house that likely dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed from coursed squared marlstone with wooden lintels, featuring a roof made of Stonesfield slate and corrugated iron, along with brick stacks. The building has a two-unit plan plus a subsidiary range and stands two storeys high. The main range has a three-window front with a central doorway. The windows have been renewed with leaded casements, except for the left of the door where there is a canted five-light 18th-century bay window that has a moulded cornice and a tiled roof. The steep-pitched roof is topped with two stacks. To the right, there is a lower range with a corrugated-iron roof and a part-rendered front, which mostly features 20th-century openings but retains a loft door above a garage entrance. Inside, the building has chamfered beams. It has been recorded as a public house since the late 18th century and is included for its group value.
