Description
Astley Bridge Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse built from limestone rubble with squared dressings and some brick ornamentation. It has a concrete plain-tile roof with a brick ridge stack and features a central-stair plan with a rear outshut. The building is designed in a mid-Georgian style and stands two storeys plus an attic.
The symmetrical front has three windows, with the central section projecting forward beneath a pediment-shaped gable that includes a brick-arched lunette. The central bay features a Venetian window above a similar arrangement that incorporates the front door, both of which have brick relieving arches. The outer bays contain 16-pane sash windows above 20-pane sash windows. A brick cornice with moulded dentils encircles the central bay and extends to the sides. The hipped roof extends over the rear outshut.
To the right, there is a lower granary range that has been incorporated into the house but still retains an external brick stair at the rear. The rear wing on the left was formerly a dairy. Most interior features were renewed in the 20th century.
