Description
The Manor House Nursing Home is a farmhouse that likely incorporates parts of an earlier manor house. It probably dates from the 16th or 17th century and was remodeled and extended in the late 18th or early 19th century. The building is made of rendered stone and has a plain-tile roof with rendered brick stacks. It is designed in an L-plan and consists of two storeys plus an attic. The front has six windows with a moulded plinth, featuring tripartite sashes in bays 1, 4, and 6 on both floors, while the other windows are 12-pane sashes. The entrance, located in bay 5, has a panelled design with a rectangular overlight and is accompanied by a large 20th-century porch. There is also a secondary entrance between bays 2 and 3. The roof has three stacks, and bays 1 and 2, which are gabled at the rear, may be the oldest parts of the structure. The rear of the building contains additional 12-pane sashes. Inside, there is a very large open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer. Historically, this building was a large manor house that belonged to the Harrington family in the 17th century.
