Description

Mere House and The Cottage are a house, now divided into two dwellings, dating to the late 17th century, with 19th-century additions and 20th-century alterations. The house is constructed of squared coursed limestone, with a steeply pitched slate roof and brick end stacks. A lower limestone wing, set gable-on to the road, has a steeply pitched slate roof. A 19th-century brick addition, also set gable-on to the road and projecting forward, is constructed of red bricks in a Flemish bond pattern with glazed headers. The Mere Road elevation has an entrance approximately central, featuring a six-panelled door, a moulded wood doorframe, and a hood. To the left are two 20th-century imitation wood mullioned and transomed windows with stone flat arches above. On the first floor is a blank window above the door, and two windows similar to those on the ground floor. The interior is noted to have a straight flight staircase with winders, and is said to contain beams and original fireplaces. The interior was not inspected.
