Description

Stone House is a house with a datestone from 1638 located in Finmere Valley. It features a datestone from 1879 as well. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and has a steeply pitched red-tile roof with stone-coped gables and ball finials, along with two brick end stacks and a stair ridge stack that has a chamfered stone base. The house has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys plus an attic high, with a three-window range on the front.

The entrance is off-centre to the right and accessed through a 20th-century porch. On the ground floor, there are two 4-light stone mullioned windows to the left of the porch and another similar window to the right, all featuring hand moulds and label stops. The first floor has three 3-light stone mullioned windows, each with hood moulds and label stops. The attic features three gabled full dormers with 3-light stone mullion windows and stone-coped gables. All windows on the front elevation have 20th-century opening casements inserted within the stone mullioned frames. A stone string course runs along the attic level, and there is a single-storey outshot at the rear.

The interior includes 17th-century ceiling beams and a 19th-century staircase. In 1887, the house was known as Mr. Lepper's House. At that time, it was one storey high and thatched, but Lepper raised the walls in 1879. The initials IYEY/1638 on the datestone refer to members of the Yates family. The interior has not been inspected.
