Description

Mizpah Cottage is a house with origins in the 17th century, substantially rebuilt in the early 18th century following a fire. A datestone inscribed "this house was burned May l3 1721" is visible, set within a panel depicting an open book. Below this is a cartouche bearing the initials "I/L/A". The construction is of squared, coursed ironstone, with uncoursed rubble on the left end. The roof is steeply pitched and covered in stone slates laid to diminishing courses. A brick end stack sits on a rendered base. The house follows a two-unit plan and has two storeys, originally with a two-window front. The central entrance features a plank door in a moulded wood surround, beneath a wooden lintel. This entrance is flanked by two 2-light casement windows dating to the 20th century, also with wooden lintels. Matching 2-light windows are located on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
